This is a Shiloh Sharps 1874 Number 1 with a 34″ heavy octagonal barrel. It features a cheek piece, checkered tang, has double set triggers, and checkered steel shotgun butt plate. The rifle is sighted with a globe style front sight and a mid-range style Vernier tang sight. A pair of handmade suede muzzle and rear sight covers are included.
Condition:
The condition of this Shiloh Sharps #1 rifle is fine overall. The barrel retains around 97% of its original matte blue finish with some light staining and high edge wear along the barrel. The bore is bright and excellent. The receiver, action, and tang sight retain about 80% of the factory case hardening toning to smoky gray. the rifle is sighted with a globe style front sight and a mid-range style Vernier tang sight. The tang sight has some very light speckled light oxidation. The smooth pistol grip walnut stock and fore end are in near excellent condition with a small scratch on the left side cheek piece and a mark near the toe of the butt stock. The stock features a traditional checkered steel butt plate. This rifle was set up for long range shooting using a Vernier tang and spirit globe sights, there is no provision for a barrel. The rifle was used over the course of its life but for the most part well cared for. There is a silver disk engraved with initals inlet into the underside of the butt stock. Evidently put there by a previous proud owner. These are great rifles and 45-70 is probably the best choice for one. Since it is easy to work up a load with readily available components or use commercially available ammunition. Shipping is included in the price of the rifle.
