This is a Winchester 1886 rifle in 40-65WCf. It has a 26” full octagon barrel and magazine, standard walnut stocks, and is sighted with buckhorn rear sight and blade front sight.
Condition:
The overall condition of this Winchester 1886 is very good. The receiver, barrel, magazine tube, lever and butt place surfaces have toned to a fairly even brown patina. The fore end cap has toned to a lighter brown-silver. The bore is partially bright strong rifling exhibiting mild pitting. The legends are strong, the serial number may have been enhanced at some point. The upper tang has a threaded hole where the fill screw is absent. The wood is fine as refinished which was done in the distant past. The wood is about even with the metal surfaces and has a pleasant, dark walnut color with some figure. The wood has handling marks and chips from use over time. The action cycles a round well and locks up strong. This is a really nice 125 year old Winchester 1886 rifle. It is in a good caliber, where brass is available, and perfectly sound to easily put back to work.
